My second olympus omd-m1 has run into problems

My second m1 has an intermittent rear dial. This camera is going back to olympus for repair. Without the rear dial working its a point and shoot.  It seems to me that there are quality problems with the manufacturer of these cameras. I wish they were made in japan instead of china. This is pretty poor to have two bodies fail.

This would be an exposure of about 3 minutes. OMD-M1 and 12-40 at f7.1, ISO 200 using a 10 stop ND. The camera was remote controlled as the bugs were vicious.

Metabones Canon fd to M4/3 issues.

I got a new Metabones adapter this week. It looks promising, however tht tripod foot contacts my Omd E-m1 body and has ground the corner finish off the bottom of the lens mount housing.
Also, the device is not adjusted for infinity on a perfect condition fd 35mm F2. I can adjust the body focus following instructions on their website.
Metabones has been contacted for a solution.
Update: the focus adjustment required about a 3/4 counter clockwise turn. Metabones is sending out a replacement tripod foot. If its not any different form the current one I can at least dremel one of them down or shim it out. According to Metabones they only make one size of tripod foot so lets hope its a quality issue. Still this adapter has marked up my camera body....

Update:
Metabones shipped a new foot and it has the same issue of rubbing against the camera. I guess they have never actually mounted the adapter and foot on an omd-1. This is disappointing. On to plan B.

Update Plan B:
A while with a Dremel tool grinding off the raised back part of the foot corrects the problem. Painting with non glossy black paint finishes the job. I hope Metabones fixes this for future Omd 1 users.

Easter Crocus

Easter Crocus
This is a blend of three different images at various focal points. There were more than three images taken for a focus stack that would have rendered a totally sharp flower. I selected only three for the effect I wanted. At an aperture of F8 and this magnification DOF is very shallow. A 100mm manual focus macro lens was used on a OMD-M1. Fill light was added from a silver refector. Photoshop CC was used to blend the images.

Window of Hope

Window of Hope
Two infrared shots merged. One focused on the wall and one on the forest. Each shot was taken at F7.1 Processed in PS CC and Lightroom. There is an amazing tool in PS for wide angle corrections. Used it and wow!

Tiffen ND 3.0

I am the first kid on my block to get the new ten stop Tiffen 3.0 netrual density filter. This one fits the Olympus 12-40 (62mm) for the OMD-M1. The M1 has this incredible feature (livebulb) where long exposures display on the camera as they build up during the exposure. I can't wait for the opportunity to use this very dark piece of kit on some water shots. I also obtained a 1.2 (4 stop) filter for less dof during the day.

Advanced Digital Black & White Photography Book

I had the chance to read this book over the holidays. This updated version (2012) was an excelent refresher on what I've forgotten. John Beardsworth has detailed both the historical methods and the current best practices. The addition of some Lightroom and Silver Efex pro content was valuable as those are the tools I currently use.

This text is highly recommended for photographers interested in the fine craft of digital black & white image creation.
