It's been a couple of weeks since we have had this phone. I like it very much. The LG Optimus Quantum hardware is great and the WP7 software is very good for a version 1. The phone is easy to use. The music player part of the phone and OS is good. There are enough applications in the marketplace now. The LG marketplace has some cool utility applications. Who would ever have thought I could level my turntable using a $450 phone LOL. It's now time to take my lumps and admit MS and LG have a winner here.

I'm not certain why the start icons do not rotate in landscape mode. The ability to change the power saving time out of the screen is also missing or way too hard to find. The Zune software to load music on the phone is just what is needed without all the extra baggage of other similar products. The missing support for Adobe Flash is a problem. I understand it's being developed. The key to thing to watch here is just how quickly the update is available. It should be much quicker to get updates out to all the manufacturers devices due to the MS implementation of the OS. We are still liking the device and OS overall....

Got one of these today for Joan. It's the LG Optimus Quantum model from Bell.ca Very cool smartphone. Nice build of hardware. Smooth scrolling. Easy to learn and use. It will take a few days to get adjusted to the device. Already I like the IE web browser and the lack of Apple stuff :-) The happy face key might be kind of Apple like :-)

I tried out a Itouch Gen 4 thinking it would be a good gift for the spouse. I discovered that the camera is a lame resolution < 1 meg unit. This is not the same camera as in the iPhone. The display is also not as good as the iPhone as the 'good' angle of view is much less. This is just not a good piece of kit. When returning it the Apple store nicked me for 10% re-stocking fee. This is the first time in my life that a vendor has had the nerve to charge me a restocking fee for a product that does not measure up. Like I will ever recommend or purchase an Apple product again.

This evening, I spent some time with the Web Deployment Tool 1.1. It was used to assist in moving some webs from Server 2008 to Server 2008 R2 here in the lab (basement.)
It worked like a charm…

The old laptop received a transplant of a SSD for the boot drive. Boot time went from 200 to 30 seconds.
This is a welcome performance improvement. There is so much developer stuff on this laptop it was running vey slow (TFS/SQL/VM’s.) It now has a bit more life in it.
I used an Intel 80 gig M series SSD for the transplant. The superfetch service was manually disabled as it was no longer needed. Windows 7 did recognize the SSD as such and took it out of the defrag disk options.
