New server in place

I've used the old server case and motherboard to build my daughter a Photoshop PC. In construction I used a 64 gig SSD for the boot drive, two one terabyte hard disks, 4 gig of fast ram, new Intel Q9300 processor (quad core) and a 512 meg DDR3 video card. She now has a machine that boots in under 30 seconds and rates 7.2 on the Windows 7 benchmarks (processor and memory.) I just did the easy 5% overclock on the CPU in the BIOS. There is a large heatpipe based heatsink in the box with extra fans to keep it all running cool.

New server (again)

I'm building another new server for development. This time it’s a quad core with a 64 bit OS. This CPU has support for hardware assisted virtual machines.

The sever assembly is done, it’s been ‘burned in’ and server 2008 R2 has been installed. The Intel q9400 CPU is nice and fast.

64 bit SQL Server has been installed. I plan to use this machine for database and application testing.

Server upgrade

I took the web server for this site to Windows 2008 (32 bit) last night (Monday August 16, 2009)

This completes the upgrades for now.

Hardware upgrade

The web server has been upgraded today to a machine with another couple of gig and more disk. It's based upon a Shuttle K45 with four gig of memory, two 250 gig disks, a 500 gig eSata attached backup disk, UPS, and external DVD drive.  It should use a lot less power...

Server upgraded to SQL 2008 SP1

I completed the upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft SQL on this site (August 13.)  This was long overdue, as playtime has been short of late. I have been using SQL 2008 on the development laptop at work for some time and like the new features such as debugging break points in SQL procs using the Enterprise manager.

An upgrade of the OS to Server 2008 (from Server 2003) is to be done next when I have time.

Bandwidth changes

We've pretty much doubled the bandwidth to the site starting May 29. It seems that we had a defective cable cutting our upload speed by  half for  the last year,,,,ouch...who knew?

Artfulweddings site

I don't see that I have the time or need to pursue the part time wedding photography business, so I'm parking the site.

Artful Weddings

I started the www.artfulweddings.ca web site tonight. The landing page is under construction.

SQL server SP3 was put on the web server.

Blog only now on www.johngreen.ca

I have changed www.johngreen.ca to contain only my blog.  www.artfulimages.ca will now host my galleries.

I will start the re-design on www.artfulimages.ca shortly.

The GraffitiCMS software was updated to version 1.2
